  1. this was a shit episode. Why would they spend an entire episode on a side character who is on for 1 in every 14 episodes this was a waste of time.

      • I have no problem with ennoshita.I just think that spending a large part of an episode on character which is a very small part of the show is annoying considering the deserving hype this show has.Disagree if you want it doesn’t change how unimportant this character is.

        • Try reading the manga before you comment. This anime is based on the manga and has very little, if at all, deviation. What happened in this episode actually covered 3 entire chapters, exactly as it was portrayed.

        • Well you are right on the thing that he and the other two second years are rarely seen in the Anime, but they need to start get him and the other two more into light since they will replace Sawamura, Sugawara and Asahi after that year. It would be weird when the next school year starts and someone we didn’t even get to see often is the Captain, it would feel out of place.

The other reason I agree is that this episode was kind of boring, they stretched it to far. I like getting to know more about every character, even small details are fun, but I would like to see more of the game too. In this one episode they just did 5 points…. argh I don’t like that they use Yamaguchi only in those parts, that boy has zero confidence and putting him only in those time in the time isn’t helping.

Just hope they find a good middle way of writing the script in showing both, character information/development and actual play.

    • They are setting up the characters possibly for another season. Think ahead, this is going to be the 3rd years last year and when that happens, it’s going to be an awkward transition if they don’t do some pre-development of the most likely to be captain.

    • i love what this episode does, it’s a highlight of two characters who haven’t seemed important to you yet, and how it’s really probably due to what we see here, their own mental struggle, dealing with their weak wills and the fact that they don’t seem to measure up to all their teammates. it’s a struggle to really become the great players and members of the team we know they can be. this ep is to highlight those characters/players people see as unimportant and show how once they overcome this battle they can do great things, and that’s a very common feeling i think for many people who are involved in sports and i feel like i can relate to it, which is part of the reason i love this plot and these characters. Remember this is about a team, which means the whole team and not just your faves. and just you wait you’ll come to appreciate what they both bring to the team

    • do you forget that this whole show has whole arcs and story lines for characters not even on the main team and you are concerned about the character who is going to be captain next year having an episode?

    • Well, you know, there’s this interesting little thing called “foreshadowing.” It’s all the rage with kids these days.

    • What? Have you been watching the same anime? Because Ennoshita was a regular up until he got it taken away and given to Tanaka and Asahi which means that there was potential there. On top of that, he’s the only character, aside from Daichi, that can handle Nishinoya and Tanaka. They made him 2nd captain because of said potential. Also, Ennoshita is constantly in episodes, so I’m not quite sure what you’re referring to.

And if you’re referring to Yamaguchi, that’s even more of stretch considering that Yamaguchi is considered a sub-main character.

It just seems like you actively don’t pay attention unless it’s thrust in your face which is not bad. I know a lot of people who watch anime like that, but you do miss a lot when you aren’t able to take in a lot. I also recommend the anime, you actually come to realise that this anime is actually verbatim of the manga in more scenes than not.

    • Huh? But it got explained by the guy in the crowd. Yamaguchi (pinch server) did run away. His only good thing is that he has a unique way to serve (floating ball), but he got scared that he won’t get a point again (first official match for him he was put in was against Aoba Josei and he made a mistake giving them the point and the win. Second time he gets put in and he barely gets the ball across the net. So he got scared that his second try will be a point for the enemy, so he played safe and did a normal serve, making his presence on the field pointless, since the other players can do such a serve PLUS being useful in other ways (spiker, setter,etc.).
So when he had another chance at trying his unique serve he cowardly run away making Coach Ukai angry, since he saw that he did … run away lol
